Understanding our covenant rights as children of God is vital for our spiritual growth and living a victorious life. Here are some steps, supported by KJV Scripture references, to help you understand and grow in the understanding of your covenant rights:
Step 1: Study God's Word Delve into the Scriptures, particularly the New Testament, which reveals the covenant established through Jesus Christ. Develop a habit of reading, studying, and meditating on the Word of God to gain a deeper understanding of His promises and your covenant rights. (2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 2:2)
Step 2: Know Your Identity in Christ Understand that as a believer, you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Recognize your identity as a child of God, a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). Through the covenant, you have been adopted into God's family and have access to His blessings and inheritance.
Step 3: Understand the Covenant of Grace Comprehend that the new covenant established by Jesus Christ is a covenant of grace. You are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14). Recognize that your righteousness is not based on your works but on the finished work of Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Step 4: Study Covenant Promises Explore the promises of God's covenant with His people. The Scriptures are filled with assurances of God's love, provision, protection, healing, guidance, and more. Study and meditate on these promises to strengthen your faith and develop a deeper understanding of your covenant rights. (2 Peter 1:4; Psalm 103:2-5)
Step 5: Claim Your Covenant Rights Once you have gained an understanding of your covenant rights, boldly claim them through faith. Speak the Word of God over your life, declaring His promises and appropriating them by faith. Remember that God's promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Step 6: Walk in Obedience and Faith Live a life of obedience to God's Word and His leading. Obeying His commandments and walking in faith will position you to experience the fullness of your covenant rights. Trust in God's faithfulness and rely on His grace as you navigate through life. (James 2:17-18; Hebrews 11:6)
Step 7: Seek the Holy Spirit's Guidance Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you in understanding and applying your covenant rights. The Holy Spirit is the One who reveals the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). Seek His wisdom and allow Him to teach you and empower you to live according to your covenant privileges.
Step 8: Fellowship with Believers Engage in fellowship with other believers who can encourage and strengthen your understanding of your covenant rights. Attend a local church, join Bible study groups, or connect with mature believers who can help you grow in your knowledge of God's Word and your covenant privileges. (Hebrews 10:25)
Remember, growing in the understanding of your covenant rights is a lifelong journey. Continually seek God, study His Word, and cultivate a deep relationship with Him. As you do so, you will experience the abundant life that Jesus came to give and walk in the fullness of your covenant as a child of God.
